Winning the Triple Crown, which happens when the same horse lifts the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes, is without doubt the most difficult task in the career of a thoroughbred. Only eleven horses have triumphed in all three American classic races, the most recent three being Secretariat (1973), Seattle Slew (1977) and Affirmed (1978). For a jockey or trainer, it is a lifelong ambition. The Swiss watchmaker Longines, which is the Official Timekeeper and Watch of the three races, shares the same fascination as generations of Americans for the Triple Crown. Last year, the dream became almost true when California Chrome cemented itself as a potential Triple Crown winner after having lifted the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. This year, all eyes are on American Pharoah, which is following in the footsteps of California Chrome so far. Will it be the one to add its name to the list of racing’s greats at Belmont Park? Will Saturday 6 June 2015 be a day to remember? The spectators of the Belmont Stakes will be holding their breath until they know the final word.

During this gala dinner, Longines was presented the Sponsorship Award for its 10 years’ partnership with the CHIO Rotterdam and its long term commitment to equestrian sports. The Swiss watch brand also received this distinction for having been a reliable and devoted partner as timekeeper of the show jumping competition.
